The project

The project concerns the processing of asbestos, the making safe, and the rehabilitation of the technical installation building on the Jussieu University Campus, made up of classrooms and research laboratories for geology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.

Our intervention, within the framework of a vast project that is still in progress, successively dealt with:
- The building of temporary buildings for teachers and researchers during the renovation of the Campus.
- The rehabilitation of a first phase of eight blocks (theory sector) and of the library.
- The removal of asbestos from a second phase of five blocks (geology sector).

The first phase of the operation represents an investment of €65M excluding VAT for the rehabilitation of 60,000 m².

The remarkable aspects of the project

This project had no precedent in France in terms of size and complexity of the asbestos removal and the safety required. It was therefore necessary to firstly establish a thorough diagnosis and technical analysis of the existing buildings, and then define the overall scenario of the project and its budget, before committing to the first operational phase.

The novelty of the project also required an iterative fine-tuning of the programme with users simultaneously with the progress of studies.

Finally media aspects of the operation as well as the numerous town planning and architectural constraints required specific investment in the teams involved, both on the client's side and on the side of the prime contractor and companies.
