The project

The project concerned the redevelopment and the extension of terminal 2 of Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport that had to be carried out whilst ensuring the operational continuity of the site. This therefore required the development of complex phasing of studies and works
.

Other than increasing the surface areas for the public and doubling the number of check-in counters and boarding gates, a vast basement regrouping all of the main technical equipment was created, mainly working under the existing structure.

The main data of the project is as follows:

Terminal 2
- Phase 1: Provisional walkways 1992
- Phase 2: First extension and redevelopment – 10,000 m² 1995 to 1998
- Phase 3: Building creation and subterranean electricity technical rooms and HVAC 1998 to 2000
- Phase 4: Second extension and redevelopment on two levels of departures and arrivals Creation of a bus station – 26,000 m² 2000 to 2003

Central Hall Upgrading and renovation of the central building Development of a shopping mall 2003 to 2005

The remarkable aspects of the project

The essential point is that the project evolved permanently due to commercial imperatives and the continuing operation of the airport. This required the implementation of complex transitory dispositions in order to permanently ensure both the flow of passengers and the multiple energy supplies, and this under rigorous security conditions, for the public as well as for the operational personnel.

On a technical level, working partially under the existing structure was a high point of the project.
